AACC Shadow – Emily Ye

Hello! I am a rising sophomore at North Carolina State University majoring in human biology. This is my second year being a part of the AACC program. I am honored to come back and help out with the program and furthermore gain more insight into the Chinese hospital system.
For me, this year was slightly different than last year. Not only am I in a different city, I also have a new position. This year, I was able to be a trip leader. This position has allowed me to gain a vast amount of insight about the background work needed for the program. It also allowed me to develop strong relationships with people both in and out of work. Although it may require more work than regular students, it was definitely worth the effort to make each day meaningful.
On the learning side, the hospital experience has been a great learning opportunity. Personally, I have been able to learn so much from all the doctors and staff in each department. This program has offered so much that I would not be able to experience back home.
Overall, this trip was an amazing time for me. Not only was I able to learn so much from the hospital and all the different cultural classes, I was also able to develop many great relationships with fellow students and locals. This is such an unique chance for one to learn and have fun at the same time. I definitely would recommend this program to anyone who is interested in medicine.
